avoidant attachment after a breakup
the retreat is a move, not a verdict about your character. some bodies go quiet when a bond ends. the wave can arrive late.
attachment research treats this as a pattern of closeness and distance, not a badge. the same person can reach in one season and retreat in another. that is why a quiz that returns a type is a bad gift: it freezes a moving thing.
after an ending, the retreat can look like competence. work gets done. the apartment is clean. friends hear that you are fine. under that, the body is still mapping the loss. when the mapping finishes, the feeling that was postponed can land all at once.
if you are the one who was left by a retreat, the silence can feel like proof you were too much. it is usually proof that closeness got expensive for their nervous system. that does not make the hurt smaller. it does stop you from turning their move into your identity.
what helps is space that does not demand a story. a private page. a walk that names the retreat without asking you to become someone else. both at once is for wanting them and wanting distance in the same breath. the meadow keeps words that are not ready to go anywhere.
