1. acceptance of terms
by entering sanctuary, by creating an account, placing a stone, writing in your cairn, or stepping into the grove, you agree to these terms. if they do not feel right to you, you are free to close the door. there is no obligation to stay.
these terms form a binding agreement between you and SanctuaryApp, Inc. ("sanctuary," "we," "us"). the word "traveler" refers to you, the person who has chosen to walk this path.
2. what sanctuary is
sanctuary is a private digital environment for emotional reflection. it is a place to sit with what you carry, to witness your own weather, and to find your way back to yourself at your own pace.
sanctuary includes personal reflection tools (your cairn, your compass rose, your treasury), a conversational companion called Dove, and a community space called the grove where travelers hold space for one another.
sanctuary is not a medical device. it is not therapy. it is not a crisis service. nothing within sanctuary, including anything Dove says, should be treated as medical, psychological, or legal advice. if you are in crisis, please contact a crisis line. in the US, call or text 988.
3. traveler accounts
to walk through sanctuary, you create an account with a grove name, a chosen pseudonym. you are responsible for what happens under your account. keep your credentials safe and let us know if someone else gains access.
you must be at least 13 years old to create an account. if you are under 18, a parent or guardian must review these terms and our privacy and sovereignty page before you begin.
4. privacy and data sovereignty
your inner life belongs to you. sanctuary is built on a local-first architecture, which means your reflections, your cairn, and your personal rituals stay on your device unless you choose otherwise.
we collect only what is necessary to keep the path open. our full commitment to your sovereignty is described in our privacy and sovereignty page, which is part of these terms.
5. prohibited conduct
sanctuary asks for good faith. when you are here, you agree not to:
- harass, threaten, or target another traveler
- post content in the grove that violates our community guidelines
- attempt to identify or contact travelers outside the sanctuary environment
- impersonate another person or misrepresent who you are
- reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code
- use bots, scrapers, or automated systems to access sanctuary
- interfere with the operation or security of the platform
- use sanctuary for any commercial purpose without written permission
6. intellectual property
the sanctuary application, its design, code, brand, and all original content are owned by SanctuaryApp, Inc. and protected by intellectual property law. you may not copy, modify, or distribute them except as these terms allow.
what you write in your cairn and your grove posts remains yours. by posting in the grove, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to host and display your words within sanctuary. you can delete them at any time.
7. disclaimers
sanctuary is provided "as is" and "as available." we do not promise the path will always be open, uninterrupted, or free of error. to the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
dove is a companion, not a therapist, doctor, or counselor. its responses are generated by software and can be wrong, incomplete, or unsuitable for your situation. do not rely on Dove for medical, psychological, financial, or legal decisions.
we do not warrant the accuracy or reliability of any content generated by Dove or shared by travelers in the grove.
8. limitation of liability
to the fullest extent permitted by law, sanctuary and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform, including emotional distress, lost data, or reliance on Dove's responses or grove content.
our total liability for any claim arising from these terms or your use of sanctuary will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) USD $50.
some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations. in those places, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
9. termination and the right to be forgotten
you may leave sanctuary at any time. delete your account, and we will purge your data from our active systems. backups are cleared within 90 days. you have the right to be forgotten, and we honor it.
we may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice depending on severity. on termination, sections that by their nature should survive (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, governing law) remain in effect.
10. governing law
these terms are governed by the laws of the state of Tennessee, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Nashville, Tennessee, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
if you are a consumer in the EU or UK, this clause does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence.
11. changes to these terms
we may update these terms as sanctuary evolves. if a change is material, we will notify you in the app before it takes effect. continued use of sanctuary after the change means you accept the updated terms. the effective date at the top always reflects the current version.
