No. Sanctuary is a self-care and reflection tool. It is not therapy, medical care, or a crisis service. It does not diagnose, treat, or cure any condition.
If you need professional support, please reach out to a licensed provider. Find a Helpline can point you toward services in your country.
dove is a companion, powered by a large language model. It is not a human, a therapist, or a doctor. Its responses are generated by software and can be wrong.
Treat Dove like a thoughtful friend who is also an AI, useful sometimes, but never a substitute for real care.
Most of your data, your journal, your cairn, your Compass Rose, lives on your device. We don't see it unless you turn on cloud sync.
Grove posts are visible to other users under your pseudonym. Conversations with Dove are sent to our AI provider to generate responses, and a brief safety-review window applies (see our Privacy Policy).
We don't sell your data, run advertising, or track you across other apps.
Yes, anytime. Open the app → Self tab → Your Data → Delete my account. We delete from active systems immediately and from backups within 90 days.
You can also export everything we've stored (journal, Grove posts, settings) as a JSON file before deleting, from the same menu.
Tap the menu on any post and choose Report. Select a reason. The post will be hidden from your view immediately, and our moderation team reviews within 24 hours.
You can also block a person (you'll never see them again, they aren't notified) or hide a post (just removes it from your view).
For reports of urgent harm, credible threats, self-harm content, anything frightening, also email hello@joinsanctuary.io so we can prioritize.
days returned is a cumulative count of every day you placed a stone. it never resets. the cairn remembers what you built, not what you missed.
if your count looks off or does not match your activity, please email hello@joinsanctuary.io with your grove name and we will take a look.
missing a day does not undo what you have practiced. the cairn remembers.
Yes, many people do. Sanctuary is designed to sit alongside professional care, not replace it. The journal, anchor, and reflection tools can be useful between sessions.
If your therapist has specific guidance about apps or self-help tools, please follow it.
You must be at least 13. If you are between 13 and 18, you confirm during onboarding that a parent or guardian has approved your use of the app.
The core experience is free, forever. The cairn, dove, the meadow, the grove, and every expedition, all free, always. Sovereign ($9/month or $72/year) deepens an ongoing practice and lets you support the work. It never unlocks healing.
Dove now identifies patterns in your healing path and reflects them back to you. it's not just conversation; it's a mirror. over time, dove learns the shape of your weather and gently surfaces what it notices, recurring themes, shifts in tone, and moments of growth you might have missed.
Yes. The Reflections Summary feature lets you export your visual record of resilience anytime. Your data is yours. Open the app, go to Self → Your Data → Export, and you'll receive a complete, portable copy of your journal, cairn history, and reflections.
We take this seriously. Please email hello@joinsanctuary.io with as much detail as you're comfortable sharing, what was said, when, and what you noticed. We review every safety report.
If Dove said something harmful, dismissive, or that pushed you away from real help, we want to know.
Absolutely not. Our founder's dog Claude is named after Claude Giroux, the legendary Flyers captain, playoff beard icon, and the man who once body-checked the entire city of Philadelphia into a frenzy. When you bleed orange and black, you name your dog after a hockey god, not a chatbot.
The fact that an AI model shares the name is purely coincidental and, frankly, the AI should be flattered by the association. Claude the dog has better instincts, a stronger forecheck, and has never once hallucinated.
